Ian Kennedy

Partner, Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Division

 

Ian is a Partner and head of the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution division of McLaughlins incorporating Debt Recovery, Building and Construction,  Insolvency and Restructuring, among other areas.

 

Ian was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1987, and practiced in New Zealand for several years, before moving to the United Kingdom.  Ian was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and practiced in England before returning to practice in New Zealand in 1994 undertaking a wide range of commercial litigation work.  Ian has been with McLaughlins since 2001.  

 

Ian brings his own extensive and broad litigation experience to all areas of the firm’s Litigation and Commercial Dispute Resolution division, including:-

  • Commercial, commercial/property, leasing and retail shop leases, and residential conveyancing litigation;
  • Insolvency and restructuring;
  • Professional indemnity, general insurance and public liability insurance, acting on behalf of insurers as well as local authorities;
  • General debt recovery, in all jurisdictions;
  • Business and Partnership disputes;
  • Estate litigation;

  • Body Corporate and Community Management Law;

As one example, Ian and his team successfully defended a claim brought against a large commercial client by Louis Vuitton International in relation to Trade Mark issues which had the potential to have wide ranging implications nationwide.
